Instrument Rating (IFR) Training
Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) training teaches you how to fly solely by reference to instruments, allowing you to safely operate in clouds, reduced visibility, and complex airspace. Instead of relying on what you see outside the airplane, you’ll learn to trust and interpret your instruments, navigation systems, and procedures.
IFR training is one of the most skill-building and confidence-boosting ratings a pilot can earn. It dramatically improves precision, decision-making, and situational awareness—skills that carry over to all flying, even on clear VFR days.

Basic Requirements
To begin IFR training, you must meet the following:

At least 17 years of age

Valid U.S. Driver’s License (or FAA medical as required)

Private Pilot Certificate

FAA Instrument Rating Knowledge Test (minimum passing score of 70%)

FAA Instrument Practical Test (Checkride)
Flight Hour Requirements
Per FAR 61.65, the Instrument Rating requires:

40 hours of instrument time, including
-
One 250-nautical-mile dual cross-country under IFR
-

50 hours of Pilot-in-Command (PIC) cross-country time
